He is a vice-president of the Keadilan party, in the Pakatan Rakyat opposition coalition. Lee was elected to Parliament in the 2008 election, defeating Datuk Lim Hee Leong (son of former Transport Minister Tun Ling Liong Sik) to wrest the Gopeng seat away from the governing Barisan Nasional coalition.
